Still Life (Seeing Myself Dead)

Still Life (Seeing Myself Dead) is a response to today’s emphasis on eternal youth. I could have called it Always Look your Best.

This work helps us to consider fundamental questions such as Will I die? What does it mean to be dead? It also raises the questions of appearance … How will I look when I’m old and dead? What will I wear?… that drives us to try and look forever young, and to outlay small fortunes even on post-death makeovers.

When I first displayed it, a 30-something woman who works in a funeral parlour said ‘Beautiful’.
