Venus Looking For Velasquez

Venus looking for Velasquez is another variation on my original Venus Figure (2009). Does the artist seek out the form, or does the form seek out the artist? Does each seek out the other? This work acknowledges the constraints under which many artists have worked when depicting the sensual human form. Whether it is the church in Velasquez’ time, the feminist critic in the 1980s or the grandstanding politician today, someone is always seeking to control this depiction.
