What a mouthful! My first acceptance into a juried national sculpture show – 150 entrants, 40 finalists – and it was a good one. No, I didn’t win – the $12,000 award went to another former Tasmanian, Ange Leech – but the unsolicited positive feedback from a number of the other finalists really gave me a kick. Everywhere I display Still life: Seeing myself dead it touches people.
The curators, Nina Shadforth and Nicole Maggs, and gallery support staff had done a fantastic job installing the works and organising and publicizing the opening. The show signage, invitation and catalogue were of national standard, and live music from a four-piece band gave a great sense of occasion. Well done, Noosa.
